I did a nice 10 mile run this morning on the hot blacktop in south jordan.  I went down to redwood road and then up to daybreak around and back home. My average mile was 7:11 and there was about 3 miles of steady hill climb.

I ran a 2 mile warmup with Paul, Jon, and Cody and I didnt really feel like running.  I can usually get my mind set to feeling like racing even when Im sick.  I started the race a bit fast but felt good and in control.  There was 2 young kids ahead of me and they were running about a 5:10 pace and I wasnt sure if they were running the 5k or 10k so I kept myself close to them in case they passed the turn around point for the 5k.  Sure enough they did and I found myself all by myself and in a head wind.  My times after that suffered a bit from boredom and wind. I hate wind.  It wasnt too bad but enough to slow me to a 5:55 pace.   After the turn around I saw Jon and Paul side by side and they were about 200 yards behind me I was expecting a barrage of apples from them but luckily there wasnt any trees along the way.   I felt good on the turn around with a bit of wind to my back but it wasnt enough to feel a great push.  I made it to mile 4 1/2 and Jon caught me and passed me  and then came the down hill which he is so good at.  I told myself to try and stay with him and I tried my darndest and after that came a quick steep uphill and I started to close on him but by the time I hit the top it flattened out and he took off.  I couldnt close the gap and every surge I had he had also so I finished barely ahead of Paul for 2nd place.  I really wanted to try and hit a 5 minute mile on one of my miles but I was too tired.  I rested too long on my camp trip and it showed.  My miles were  1)5.20, 2)5.57, 3.1)(actually was 1.1 miles) 6.06, 4.2)(actually 1.1 again) 6.01, 5.2)5.46, 6.2)5.38

I ran 7 miles tonight at 8 pm and it was still blistering!  I ate rice with chicken, a salad and beets! I love Beets. Ok I felt good for the first 2 miles and then I felt my din din come up to my throat.  I lasted 7  miles without throwing up and I really wanted to do 10 but something I ate was burning my stomach to my throat and my mouth started swelling so I stopped and took a benedryl when I got home.  My throat is itchy, my stomach hurts and my lips are swollen! Ah isnt running the best!?

I did a speed workout on the Riverton High track this morning.  I warmed up with a 2 mile run and then did 2x400's, 1x800, 1x1200, 1,1600. A quick cool down and then rushed home to take a japanese foreign exchange student that is living with us to her activity in which she is going to moab for a couple of days.  She is a riot! She doesnt speak english very good and she looks like ugly betty. Im not kidding, she has dark hair down to her eyes with those ugly betty glasses.  She is a doll!  You wouldnt even know she was living with us, she is so darn quiet.

I think Ill rest this morning and then go get my packet for the Provo river half.

Ok I woke up at 4:15 am this morning and drove to the bus pick up. It was slow getting on but made it up there. Grouped up with Fast running blog/St. George running team and the weather was nice. This was my first time on this coarse and it always makes me nervous as I didnt look at a map at all on this race. The start was blistering fast. Jeff shot out like a cannonball! Didnt see him after the 2nd or 3rd mile. My first mile was a 5:13 which I actually thought would be faster. I was around 8th or 9th place. 2nd mile was a 5:21 still downhill and still in 8th place. 3rd mile was still some downhill and hit a 5:24. 4th mile was 5.12, 5th was 5.33 and then the hill came and I dropped two spots to 6th overall right behind Adam and Chad. 6th was a 5.49 due to the incline and 7th was 5.10. We were off the highway at this point back on the trail and I noticed one of the three in the first group had dropped off a little and Adam and Chad and I worked hard to catch him but didnt have enough trail in the end. It ended up being Sasha who I was surprised to see running after a brutal Des news race recently. (At least it is for me Sasha, that is a hard race) So my 8th mile was 5.33 and 9th was 5.37. I was fading a bit and feeling fatigued. 10th was a 5.40 and I felt good at this point so I tried to make a push and only made it about 100 yards when my gut started acting up. Due to the lack of Porta jons on the coarse and at the finish I didnt want to make my finish in poor taste if you know what I mean! So I figured Id just hang on to 6th and if I could maybe do 1 mile push to catch Chad. 11th was a 5.38 and 12th mile was a 5.49. As I got back on the river trail I took a right turn and went the wrong way for a 100 feet before a lady told me I was going the wrong way. I turned around and went the other direction but lost sight of Chad and I had wondered if I was going the right way or not!? I kept going and then finally saw an arrow and when I looked at my watch it said 13.1 miles on it so I knew I was close. I sprinted the last leg and my finish time from my watch was 1:13:23. My 13th mile was 6 even from messing up and my last sprint on my watch was .26 with a 1;13 which is faster than my speed workout quarters. The Bloggers did a 1-6th place sweep! I told Sasha I had the most pressure on my shoulders because I had to keep everyone else behind me! lol Ok Not a bad day to PR!

Did a speed workout this morning. Started with Trick and my wife and then joined up with Peggy's group and Jody was there too.  I did a 2 mile warmup on the the track and did 3x200's(43,43,39) and then did 1x1200 3.49, 1x800 2.38, 1x400 1.19, 2 mile tempo run 6.56, 7.03 2x400 (1.18, 1.18), and 2x200's (35,34) 2 lap cooldown.  Good to finally meet Peggy, Cheris, Cheryl, and of Course Jody again.  My legs are thrashed from Saturday still but I always like to do speed workouts.  I ended up running 10 miles total.  Thanks for the ride home Jody! You saved my legs a bit.

ALL BY MYSELF were the lyrics to the song in my head this morning as I ran. I had to get up early and get my Japanese student off to the airport by 6:30.  She has been a cute little addition to our home for the past 2 weeks.   It was a blast getting to know her and I didnt know this till yesterday but Cheryl was in the same program and last night they had a dinner for us and I saw her there.  It was fun.  I ran an extended loop off of Daybreak this morning late. I started close to 9 so the sun was in full force.  Now I can work on that farmers tan! lol I ran a pretty nice comfortable pace and my average was 7:16.  Well its off to work I go! Tschuss!

I worked out this morning with the Bingham Buttkickers (what a great name)  I feel like I should have a leather jacket with a comb! We did 3 5k tempo runs and I got to know a few more people like Julie and Cheryl who is not Debbie!  Michelle and Kelli and of course Jody.  I know I asked others their names but forgive my ignorance in remembering.  I forget my own kids' names just so you have an idea how I am.  I felt pretty good today, it was very dark at the start!

I went up to the capitol and ran 18 miles.  I ran the avenues for 6 miles and then went up City Creek Canyon for  6 and then 6 down.  My last mile was at tempo speed and I had the canyon slope to help me with a 5.04 mile.  My total time was 1hour and 58 minutes.  The uphill was pretty hard this morning, I was doing 8-8:30 miles up and I was doing 6-6:30 down.

I got up early and ran with Peggy, Cheryl, Kelli, Scott, Michelle, and I forgot the name of the other lady, please forgive! I ran to their meeting place which was 1.5 miles and ran a very dark few miles with them until we could finally make out who we were running with. We werent actually making out, more or less working out. We ran by my old neighborhood on Glenmore golfcoarse and then up to Daybreak. I got a total of 11.5 in and now im ready for my day to start.

Tonight I ran 7 miles up at the top of Millcreek canyon on the trail up to dog lake. Then around the lake and back down. I passed 2 mountain bikers going up and they dusted me on the way down.  It took me 26 minutes up and 21 minutes down.   I feel good right now like I could go for a couple more miles.  I think Im good, Ill go watch the Olympics now.

Ok I woke up late this morning but still managed to get down to Parkway Palisades to do a run with the BB group.  They had a great showing this morning!  We warmed up a few miles then did 4x1 mile repeats on so trecherous hills.  First one was 6.58, second was 6.31, third was 6.14 and I missed the last one.  Then we did 3 hill repeats and finished off with a cool down.  Then I ran a couple extra miles with Peggy.  A nice workout for running just a few hours before that!  I was very tired at the first and then warmed up after 5 miles.  It took forever.

I went to Riverton High School track and did a warmup on the track with Misty as she wanted to do a speed workout.  My left leg is killing me and I kept running thinking it would loosen up and go away and it didnt so I made 2 miles on the track and then stopped, stretched and went and laid down in the car until Misty was done.  Its weird, it kind of feels like arthritis, I stretched and I dont feel any muscles or tendons that are in the area.  I will ice and rest today and maybe see if I can run tonight.

Ok I waited for the coolest time tonight to run and did a 5 mile run. My leg had a dull pain going up the hill to daybreak and coming down it had a sharp pain. So I guess by the sounds of it, its a tendon or muscle when its a dull pain and its a ripped tendon or muscle if its a sharp pain. Thats what the doc told me today. If it gets worse after this race Ill look at it closer. Pain is temporary, unless it becomes permanent right?  Its like someone out there has a voodoo doll and is messing around this blog.  Its not funny.

Wow, this is a first that I got a 8 hour sleep time in.  I ran at 8:40 and put in 3 miles. I stopped to talk to a neighbor who I had no idea was a runner.  She ran her first marathon in Salt Lake this year and was disappointed.  I told her I didnt blame her because that is a blankety blank course in my opinion. I gave her the blog name and hopefully she'll get on here.  She goes down to Lifetime fitness and was in a marathon running program they had.  Her first name is Sharon.

My leg is in cahoots but jimmy crack corn and I don't care.  Ill see what it does after tomorrows race. It was a bit hot this morning and I worked up a full out sweat!  That is rare for a skinny guy that doesnt sweat too much.

Ok I got to the buses early and was waiting for Trick, my wife and her sister and bro in law were all there and were too anxious to wait for me so they jumped on the bus without me and I waited a few minutes and then met up with Trick. We headed up and regrouped at the top. My leg was hurting so I decided to run 1 mile as a warm up. The race started and I felt pretty good. I had some pain but only when it got steeper. I pretty much ignored it and tried concentrating on the race. I ran with Cody, Jon, and Paul and our first mile was a bit slow but Sasha and Josh were running pretty conservatively so it didnt bug me. Our pace sped up a bit more and more every mile as you can see. Thats thanks to Jon. He was in Kick mode. I had a rock stuck to the bottom of my shoe and it stayed there most the race. I was talking to paul and tried kicking my sole and just about ate it. Paul assured me that he would have laughed his head off and used that as a great story in the blog. Thanks Paul! Every mile Jon started to get a bit of a gap on me and Paul until we hit the bottom and thats when my stomach turned upside down on me. It was painful but I pushed on and looked for a porta jon from mile 8 or so and there wasnt one there! I hit the ten mile mark and still nothing. I held on as long as I could and didnt want to finish the race like Kellis picture of the guy with diarreah down his leg. So I had to do a Sashas specialty and luckily I found a canal so I could hide myself. I was down there making colors in the brush that sherman williams couldnt even match! I felt a million bucks better even though I couldnt match Sasha 5 second record. I ended up being down there for at least 45 seconds and I thought I might have been passed by someone, but nobody did. I had a slight hill for mile 11 and 12 and then the last mile was gradual downhill. I tried to make a goal of beating my first mile time so I picked it up as much as my stomach would allow. I finished well behind Jon and Paul who I had in my sights for trying to make a rally finish but not today. I immediately went straight to the bathroom and finished my tour of TOU out! Jon and Cody and Paul did a cool down which I was afraid to run anymore (sorry guys no offense) I watched Trick and then my nephew, and bro in law and his wife and then misty and her sister come in. I won a pair of walkie talkies for my boat and took second in my age which got the neat trophies they do, similar to St. George's which is a red rock with a kokapelli looking runner on it. The winning time was 1:06 by Teran Jameson. Nice run everyone! Congrats to Josh also, great running buddy! And I cant forget his wife Meagan Call who won the womens overall!! Nicely done Meagan if your reading this you got your picture in the Logan herald twice in color! Ive never got a color shot before! I kept a copy for you so Ill get it too you. I guess Im not so much of a Veteran marathoner up there anymore, everyone from SLC were erased from the final standings thanks to Teran's little tiff he had at the finish line when they wouldnt give his prize money to him. Awkward! They have never given out money on that race ever. Only the full marathon. When the press found out about it they were a little disturbed by the "Salt Lake runners" attitude. I guess these fast city boys expect their money for running. lol

What a busy day!  I drove most the day going to and from job to job to make sure everyone had what they needed.  Another 500 dollars in gas for all my trucks to move around.  If you were wondering, yes im invested in an oil field.  lol Actually I do have a gas stock that does pretty good.  I got home at 7: 15 pm and realized I didnt have time to eat and run so I just went and ran after a long day.  I did 10 boring miles against traffic and I sure do hate running in traffic.  Im back now and hopefully I can wind down enough to sleep and do it again at 5 am.

Ran on the Riverton Track this morning again, this time with Trick and Misty. Did 6x200's, 4x400's, 2 mile warmup and 2 mile cool down. Daddy's tired! Him needs rest, too bad he has to go to work now!

I ran 7.5 around Daybreak temple and then up around the new daybreak lake and around back down home.  I finished at 9:45 and boy is it dark now!  Nice and cool though! Now I must unwind, release the hounds, ice the calves, stretch the piggies, and whatever it takes to sleep and wake up early and do it again!

Started on east side of Bear Lake 20 miles from Tricks parents Cabin.  I had Tricks husband Dan Drive me, Misty and Charity around.  Misty and Charity did 14.  Trick and I went 20.  Trick wasnt feeling good and we made it 10 miles in 1:37.  She told me to go without her and get her hubby to come and get her.  My goal was to do the last 10 in 1:10.  I did my first few mile at around a 7 minute pace and then decided to do 1 mile tempo runs.  My first mile was a 5:41, second was a 5:31 and third was a 5:22.  I ran 6 miles off and on with tempo like that.  I ended up smashing my 10 mile goal time with a 1:04!  I felt really good.
