I swam 1 mile without stopping. It was very hard but I pushed myself and did it. then I did a 300 yard swim after that.  Then I ran 2 miles very slow because my IT band will not give up!  I am in some serious trouble here!  Im going to take lots of Ibuprophen today and stretch. Thats all I got to say about that!

Ok I ran 7.5 easy slow miles in 52:18 I think thats about a 7 minute mile.  The back of my knee has a dull ache in it so Im going to ice it and take more ibuprophen.

I have been swimming off and on for awhile and was wondering about your time in your mile swim today. I was just curious how I compare to others. I usually look at JOHN A on the blog for his times as well.

Did you swim 1600 yards or meters?

I did 1600 yards in 32 minutes. I seem to keep a 1 minute per lap time at a steady rate. A lap meaning 2 lengths or out and back. When I race my time comes down to about a 45 second per lap and Im probably average for swimming. There are swimmers that make me look weak as can be! But in a tri I can make up what they take in the swim from my run. What are your times?

Walter - first off I wanted to say I first found your blog after your triathlon a month or so ago. I had been reading JohnA's as he was training for it. Then came upon your race report. I realized we have some similar training. Well except for you go further and faster than me by a lot.

Anyway, last year when I had a stress fracture in my femur I was swimming much more. I swam a mile PR in 30:01. And believe me if I had been paying attention I would have pressed to go under 30...bummer.

Actually I swam 1800 yards, which converts to 1.02 mile. I think 1600 is .994. Do you know which distance would be used in a certified race for a mile swim? That is why I wondered if you swam in meters versus yards.

Usually though, I swim a combo of free and breast most days. I have never done any type of strength training on my upper body. I think the breast has helped make me a little bulkier up top. But the free is what really gets my heart rate up.

And as I just mentioned to someone else, reading blogs like your has helped me become a better runner. Thanks.

Thanks Scott. 30 minutes is a smoking great time! If I swim that in the vikingman on june 7th I know I could win. I feel like my swimming has helped my breathing in running. And Im pretty skinny so I could use a little upper body strength too. Keep up the good work.
