I had a great time in Boston! The getaway was just what I needed. The running not so much. I really didnt prepare myself this year for it as I was trying to concentrate on getting my speed in the shorter distance races. I started out very conservatively which I patted myself on the back for later, but with no long runs in my training it really showed when i fell to pieces at mile 16.  I had a solid 19 miles of great running, probably wouldve hit about a 2:32 with the pace I had set. I couldnt go at mile 20 and when I hit Heartbreak at 20.5 I was done. I had 2 porta potti stops and several calve stops to stretch and from mile 21 on I just set a goal to run a mile and then stretch. I believe I got 3rd overall for Utahs men but Ill have to make sure. It was a good getaway race and thats all I can chalk it up for. I did hurt myself, My hip is destroyed so Im going to have it x-rayed tomorrow. I could see that one coming from the several half marathons in a row I did. But I didnt push myself to where my hip kept me from stopping and getting a ride back. I will try and update my status but will be taking it easy for a while and seeing if I can gear up for UVM. I ran into Nic Mccoombs at the finish and he had a horrible cough but did a 2:27 nevertheless! So awesome! I did get passed by James Moore from this blog also around the 6 mile mark and he looked great.

Congrats on the race. Sorry to hear about your hip. Hopefully its nothing to serious.

From missy on Wed, Apr 21, 2010 at 22:47:05 from 75.162.124.171

Walter I think you are a mega stud!

That's still a wicked fast time especially under the circumstances.

Were your calves cramping? My calves are bad bad bad and cramp at times.

About your hip...I am sending well wishes your way! O.o

Get better soon and run with me, I am slow..will be easy on ya! :)Or bike...I wonder if I can kick your butt on the bike...just wondering..haha.

Sending smiles your way!

It's a decent time considering all the stopping and lack of training. You've got some talent, . . . but: Walter, what are you thinking? I wouldn't try to gear up for UVM, it's way too close, especially if your hip is shot.

From rockness18 on Wed, Apr 21, 2010 at 23:32:48 from 75.16.161.162

Nice running...hope the hip heals quickly.

From Jon on Wed, Apr 21, 2010 at 23:38:59 from 75.169.159.140

I was watching your 5k splits the whole way and was hoping you could hold a good pace. Sorry to hear it fell apart at the end. But it sounds like you had a more enjoyable trip, which is more important! Someday you'll break 2:40 at Boston...

From RAD on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 00:31:09 from 67.172.229.125

Holy moly man! I'm SO sorry about your hip, but pulling out a 2:50 with that? You are tough as nails! I hope you get back on your game soon and that the hip heals quickly. Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the peace and quiet!

FINALLY the blog report wooohoooo

OMG it sounds like a hard race/run but hey you did awesome what a time with all those stops....

I know the hip thing so I get you on that its not nice its horrid Im sorry you had to go through that but you pulled through and finnished so big pat on the back there, now rest and get that hip good so you can hit the UVM..... hey good luck with the xray :)))

From jtshad on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 10:25:56 from 204.134.132.225

Great job just getting through based on our discussion yesterday and I am glad you and Misty had fun. Way to hang tough and still finish with a good time. Get the hip, knee and ITB back in working order. Take some time to get recovered after a very heavy early racing season.

You ran hard. It is too easy to go out too hard in Boston and hit the wall late.

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 12:40:40 from 66.239.250.209

Congrats on the race. That is a fantastic time. Good luck with the hip.

From MarcE on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 12:45:26 from 206.225.68.1

Nice meeting you before the race. I've never been that close to an elite runner before :). Get yourself healed up for UVM (I hope to say Hi to you there, too).

From Rossy on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 13:50:30 from 151.151.109.11

Great job Walter! I saw your name in SL Trib in large print on a table for top Utah finishers. Even with all the pain and stops, you still knocked out a 2:50 on a challenging course which is really amazing!

From Steve on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 23:07:10 from 12.198.166.131

Nice work Walter. It was cool to bump into you at the airport on my way from work. We missed you at the Salt Lake Half! I had the same experience at Boston a few years ago. Hope you heal up for the summer season.

From Kelli on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 17:58:46 from 71.219.75.178

SO, how is the hip????

You did GREAT, do not be so hard on yourself. That is a very respectable time mister!

From Rhett on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 17:59:50 from 74.32.222.202

Walter, it was good to meet you on the bus ride to Hopkinton. I'm amazed with how fast you ran with 2 pit stops and a few stops for streching. I hope the hip heals up quickly for you.

From Walter on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:14:30 from 24.10.169.110

Thank you guys for the comments. I went and had my hip and neck x rayed and they are going to let me know whats up on monday. I do have a performis problem I hope I spelled that right. It was worked on by my neighbor who is a chiropractor at Bodyworks in South Jordan. He is on facebook and did a great job. I really am a sceptic when it comes to seeing chiropractors. I need to work on it and get it healed. So as for now, Im glad its not serious as of yet.

From Bec on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:16:11 from 76.23.55.210

Great job in Boston despite the pain that you encountered. You still had a terrific pace and finish time. Time to rest and heal.

From Nancy on Sat, Apr 24, 2010 at 14:35:59 from 76.27.19.206

Great job Walter. I'm sorry about the hip.

From josse on Sat, Apr 24, 2010 at 16:47:31 from 75.220.1.22

It's Boston baby you go whether you are ready or not and run to see how long you can hold on. Good job!

From steve ash on Sun, Apr 25, 2010 at 13:26:59 from 174.52.96.106

Hey Walt, Sorry you didn't get the time you wanted. I find it interesting that we are both struggling with that piriformis hip issue, Do you feel like it limits your range of motion?

From steve ash on Sun, Apr 25, 2010 at 13:28:36 from 174.52.96.106

Mine is just stiff and tight and i didn't even really realize it until a chiro pointed it out..
