Had a hard night and early morning. Got to the start and did a mile warmup. I took off a bit hard with a runner from Runners Corner. Then Albert Wint and Nathan Hornocks and another runner passed me. Mile 1 was slight downhill and flat in 5:30. Mile 2 was slight uphill with last quarter mile going over the peak. I was at 7800' elevation and was glad I qas on the downhill. At this point Albert and I took off and hot right up to the leaders. I wanted to use the hill to my advantage so I pushed harder. Mile 2 was 5:35 mile 3 was 4:54. Mile 4 was 5:04 5 was 5:14 and at this point we were ear the bottom. I was in 3rd overall. 6 was 5:12 then 7th mile was 5:28. This is when I guy the uphill part and passed Albert and tried to make a move on the first guy. 8 was 5:41 9 was 5:56. I finally had some decline again and hit 5:40 on 10. 11 was 5:45. I looked back to see a runner about 200 meters and closing fast. Mile 12 was 5:53 I was so tired at this point but had regrets of bring passed. I pushed my wasted self as hard as I could and hit 5:41. I turned with a quarter to go and was in hot pursuit so I gave er hell and took second by a mere 15 or so seconds. I was amazed at how none of the others runners around me took water at any stations that I saw. I was taking water at every station.

Good for you Walter! I'm happy to see you get this close to victory. Sounds like if you had maybe some more real estate you might have tagged the win. Next time..

Holy crap your fast!!!

From Walter on Sun, Jul 18, 2010 at 21:08:59 from 24.10.169.110

Burt, Thanks pops!

Steve, yes it was Nathan Hornocks. I didnt recognize him and he pulled me to a faster pace but that ok. I wished I could finish those last 4 miles in a 5:15 or faster. I wouldve hit the 1:09 for sure.

Becca, I still think TOU half is faster then that. Its scenic though.

Allie, thanks so kindly. Hope to see you at a race soon.

Cody, King of the road. lol I still am yet to master the trail my friend.

Dave, Thats one of of salary if your on unemployment. Trust me, i know this. lol

James you are right, my legs are not as hammered as last year though, thanks to James' XC camp I did at the beginning of the week.

Jon, Thanks. I hope you run TOU. I must break you. lol No serious!

K-Dawg, no thank you!

Rob, I can recover from a half a lot faster than a whole for sure!

Clyde, Im glad the field was a lot smaller this year.

Steve, Thanks it is a challenging course. Sounds like you had a nice 5k huh?

Lindsey, You should try this one, it is so fast the first 6 miles! Then Its so challenging the last 7. It was nice to hang on to 2nd though.

TM, nope, no potty words at all! I lost 2 minutes to those damn potties last year and they didnt take me this year! (Is that the potty word you meant?)

JD, I have a lot of work to try and be as good as those other fast Utahns. We have so much talent here! Its fun.

Amber, it was great seeing you again too! I was disappointed they made us wait so long though. I couldve been back and showered and a cat nap and looking forward to more vacation.

Scott, it is a scenic race. Fun to get away.

Kelli, I'm not getting caught up on that drama. You'll have to ask her yourself. Lol

Smooth, I think I had a lucky bib number for sure! :)

Wicked Fast Walter. :D That's a great race to prep you for St. George huh? :D All that downhill...I wan't to see if I can fit in Bryce next year..and several other halfs..(My fav distance)..anyhow...I came to wish you congrats!

From Walter on Thu, Jul 29, 2010 at 13:17:19 from 204.124.13.151

Missy, yes! It will punish your legs like no other! I need to get serious and try and commit to an Ironman. Im just so lazy right now with running. Ive been extremely busy trying to make money. It used to be so easy!

From missy on Thu, Jul 29, 2010 at 23:11:41 from 70.56.96.148

U will have to start eating like Deena Kastor if you want to train for Ironman. :D Tasty!

From Walter on Thu, Jul 29, 2010 at 23:29:01 from 24.10.169.110

I just need to learn how to intake 10,000 calories while I bike and run. Or learn to withstand 10 hours of physical activity.

From missy on Fri, Jul 30, 2010 at 18:33:25 from 70.56.96.148

I think you would do really well. Can't wait till you sign up! :D
