I decided to do a nice slow paced 15 miler.  I started out with Misty, Charity and Trick.  I made it about 9 miles with trick and then took off on my own at a 7 min pace. It took me 2 hours. It was a bit chilly on the park trail and extremely dark!  We started at Tricks house which is 1 mile from the 90th s. and 7th w. opening.   I really like running on the park trail because there are usually 50 or so people that i run into and that is peace of mind when I leave my wife by herself. Im excited for SGM!  Its going to be here before I know it!

What is your goal for the first half of SGM?

From Walter on Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 15:35:03

I would like to do a 1:18 or better. Probably a bit better depending on how much the hills slow me down. I am not a great closer like you Jon so I have to take advantage of every added second when I feel decent. I feel like a 6 minute mile is a great goal for the first half but Im assuming the way I usually feel Ill probably be doing 5:45's, which would put me closer to a 1:16. Let me know your strategy and maybe we can push each other. You would be a good pace person for me if your not trying to be too conservative for the first half. I just dont think I have it in me to do a 4-6 minute negative split on the second half. I do know my pace usually stays steady once im in a rhythm like it was when I ran with you down there a few years ago.

From Jon on Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 15:44:16

I'm going for about a 1:15 first half, assuming everything feels fine. You are welcome to tag along.

From Walter on Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 16:10:27

What is your goal time your shooting for? Yes I would like to tag along. I think I could do a 2:32 pretty good with a 1:15 start. I did a 1:15 in Boston and had those hills at the end on that race so maybe I can do it this time.

From Jon on Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 16:27:58

I'm aiming for sub-2:30, ideally.

From Kelli on Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 17:23:02

No laughing---what is a negative split? I have always wondered. As you know, I do not track splits at all (until I fork out the cash for a new Garmin).

Great week, Walter.

From Jon on Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 18:35:16

Kelli- negative split means you run the second half of a race faster than the first half. Positive split means the first half is faster.

What is the boot? Where can I get one? Does it help Achilles tendonitis? I can't imagine it would hurt!

Oh yea you are an animal!

From Walter on Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 13:24:02

Jon, you sound like the man with a plan for me also so I will try and stick it out with you.

Matt, the boot is an ice pack that connects to a cooler that you put ice water in and you can ice your joints. The website is www.cryocuff.com and its not something you can walk in. You just fill the cuff up with ice water and ice your joints. They have one for knees, ankles and shoulders, etc. I have the knee and ankle and its pretty awesome. I get teased by Jill because she thinks they are ugly. But the Jazz use them. watch the sidelines and you'll see them slapping them on to ice.
