I got up to the capitol this morning at 7am and ran to shriners and back to city creek canyon  and then up the canyon to the top which is 6 miles and back down.  On mile 15 I was extremely tired and hungry.  I pushed myself to a 5:40 pace even though I couldve done alot faster considering how steep  is was coming down.  I passed 5 joggers and 4 bikers going up and was using them to motivate myself for speed going up.  My total time was 2 hours and 20 seconds.  I ran my last 6 miles down the canyon in 35 minutes. I wished I could go up that in 35!

You are doing so good this year Walter. I hear you didn't get in to STGM...that sucks! What are you doing instead? Keep up the good work!

From Walter on Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 14:30:59

I just got into STGM through Jeff Shadley. He is going to run a masters only marathon the same week. I swear, Im thinking of going all out and getting a condo down there just for the admittance into the race! Tell Clyde im on his heels! jk I wished. I still have a hard time getting in long runs. It just wears me out. You are also getting some attention on the blog from what I read! Are you getting serious now? You and clyde could win the couples time they do at STGM I think they just started that last year

So, passing girls jogging and kids on bikes makes you feel tough, ha? hehehe... Just kidding, that's one impressive run! Nice work!

From Walter on Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 17:30:36

Hey, these were not ordinary kids! I had to step it up! lol I admit when im by myself and someone is ahead of me I kind of get the tendancy to speed up. I dont know if its a manly thing or just the spirit of competition. Funny huh? If I hiked with you for instance, I would probably need to be in front. Just kiddin' im not that neurotic! Now go run!

From Jody on Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 20:25:49

Nice long run, not always the easiest to do! I always like passing people - today I passed some girls riding bikes - they were going way slow - but nice to think I passed people on bikes.

From Walter on Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 23:50:31

Hey Jody, passing a bike is the same whether there hauling butt or not. Are you still back east or are you back now?

From Jody on Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 01:07:52

I am back home for a few days. I leave for Seattle for M,T,W and then I am back for quite a while. Are you running DesNews?

From Walter on Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 01:11:24

No im not running des news. Im taking a long awaited camping trip from wed. till sunday. I usually go every year with my neighbors. I can use the break from racing for a bit. I am doing the Provo river half.

From Jody on Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 10:29:46

Enjoy the camping and vacation from racing. I completely understand the need to take a break.

From Walter on Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 10:54:41

The 10k is insane fast and lots of pushing and shoving at the start. Im not too into that! Good luck with that one, you should pr!
