Ok. I made it up to the start and huddled around the fire by Craig, Andrea, Amy and Dominique, and Bill.   It was a bit chilly up there in Eden. The gun started right on time and we were off. I started slow and wanted to get a feel for what was going on and after the first half mile found myself alone.  I was a bit worried I was going to fast until I saw my watch at mile 1 was 5:21. Not to shabby for a slight downhill start. I got to mile 2 in 5:55 which is all up hill. That was a good time I thought. I was passed at that point by a guy I dont know. He talked to me at the start and told me he was trying for a 1:15 so I figured if he was running as hard as  that he would fade so I really didnt take it serious.  I got to mile 3 at 5:34, then 4 at 5:36, 5 at 5:23 6 at 5:35, 7 at 5:38, 8 at 5:29, 9 at 5:23, 10 at 5:20, 11 at 5:40. This is where I got confused and ran off the course. It messed me up trying to get back into a groove. 12 at 5:57 and 13 at 6:03.  I saw Craig come in behind me and Maryanne and Katie.  I felt good and actually took 2nd place overall. The first place guy was disqualified for not being registered.   I won a Suunto GPS watch and a free pair of Asics running shoes, and a plaque. Oh and a WIN! My 3rd half marathon ive won so far. It was good.

When they announced you as the winner, you should have taken the opportunity to give a speech on the negative impacts of banditing.

WAHOOO! Great race Walter :)

From Steve on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 23:56:17 from 64.134.158.81

Very nice win! You really should stop running off course! That only makes it harder you know. That's funny you mentioned the dequal. Ben and I had a guy "beat" us today in the marathon who was 56 years old and ran supposedly a 2:31. We had to bring it up with the race directors.

That was great talking to you at the end of the marathon. Ogden is just a kick butt race.

From Paul on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 15:25:53 from 174.27.230.30

Great job Walter, especially in getting the win. That's sweet. Pretty good haul at the prize too. How many half marathons is that for you so far this year?

From Craig on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 17:15:35 from 174.52.24.220

Good job. I think that guy's name was Ben, and he's from Provo. He told me his name at the award ceremony, but I could be off. Someone on here knows him, I'm sure. That kid that came in behind me is 13!

From Scott Wesemann on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 20:09:49 from 75.162.69.51

Congrats on your race. Soooo cool. Hey, I had a Suunto watch for about 10 years and loved it. It was pretty solid.

From jj on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 00:12:26 from 71.38.239.126

Sweet run and even sweeter win. Good job Walter. When I saw you in the trail I thought you were running back from the finish after finishing the Full! I was still shooting for a 3:15 at that point and was absolutely dying from the effort. I was totally disgusted to see that you looked so fresh!!! If I had known you were running the half I would have asked you to pace me at the last few miles. I ended up with a 3:20. Maybe next time! See you at Ragnar.

From Mike Warren on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 10:53:16 from 208.117.124.133

Walter is healed!

From LuzyLew on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 17:44:03 from 208.187.197.42

Way to hold your mental ground against the 1:15 guy. That was tough when you told me about running off the course. Good thing you noticed it so fast. It must have been tough to get it back together for the finish. It was fun seeing you at the start, and bumping into you where we were both waiting to run friends in a few miles. Good job on the win!

From TBean on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 17:58:36 from 134.24.147.249

From Jon on Sat, May 22, 2010 at 18:21:14 from 75.169.141.158

Hey, nice job with the win, Walter!

From Keith on Mon, May 24, 2010 at 00:59:02 from 174.52.17.177

Walter congrats on winning the half

That kid who passed you was a friend of mine named Justin Park I spoke with him before the race but did not know he was not offically registered.

I am thinking of doing Bryce Canyon

how was that race?

From Walter on Mon, May 24, 2010 at 01:12:35 from 68.171.231.20

Keith its a very blazing fast course except it starts at a higher elevation that takes the wind out of your sail for the first two miles. Its scenic and a fun weekend getaway.
