I always go into a race knowing there will be competition and I did today also which is good because right off the bat I had some good runners around me. I felt my legs kind of heavy at mile 1 and guy a 5.24 mile which is good and about the same time as last weeks race. I was passed at mile 1.5 and putme into 2nd but he looked young and I felt like he would guy mile 3 and if catch him. That was the case and I thought that would be it but he came back at mile 8 and made a push to end up with a minute and a half lead to win. I could feel it Pretty good from moabs race and tried to push but couldn't seem to be able to break a 6 pace so I guess my age is showing there. The winners name is Jason Nance and will probably be getting on here to blog his miles so watch for him he Has a great career ahead of him. I wished I could go back to 21 and see where if be today! Mile 2 was 5.46 3 was 5.30 4 was 5.55 5 was 5.43 6 was 5.36 7 was 5.46 8 was 5.50 9 was 6.01 10 was 6. 11 was 6.21. 12 was 6.07 13 was 5.46 and .1 was :56. The official on a bike wrecked right behind me and I felt bad. I shouldve done the right thing and gone back and helped him up. I was off of winning anyways.

Good solid time Walter. Don't beat yourself up too much about not helping the guy on the bike. Do you remember Dr. George Sheehan? Guru of the running boom back in the '70s and '80s? For many years he wrote a column in Runner's World and in one he wrote that if he were running the Boston Marathon, and a runner next to him had a heart attack, he wouldn't stop (Sheehan was a cardiologist!)Lots of angry letters to the editor the next month. His defense was, "hey, they have medical personell along the course for that". That's hard core.

Good job Walter. Will you be at Striders Half next weekend?

From Andy on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 15:34:09 from 198.60.114.178

Great job Walter!

From Walter on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 15:37:49 from 206.53.157.185

Rob that is hilarious. I do take it a little too serious myself. I would do the Lance Armstrong thing and stop to help.

Paul I will be up there in all my aches and mental fatigue. Lol it will be my last half in a row so hopefully I can hang with you for a while. This race started out totally opposite of last week I felt my legs were heavy from the get go.

From RAD on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 16:11:42 from 67.172.229.125

Nice job Walter! You never cease to impress me! STAY healthy - get Misty to give you a good butt massage (NO hanky panky now...just elbows :) ).

You had an amazing race, especially just coming off of Moab and worrying about that pacer.

From Julie on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 17:31:13 from 174.23.54.16

Great job Walter. You were supposed to come back and block the wind for me. ha ha. I lived across the street from the guy who crashed on the bike for 7 years. He is an awesome guy. I talked to him after the race and he is a little sore but fine. I'm sure he would've felt bad if you had stopped and slowed your time. No worries.

From Kam on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 17:34:41 from 68.66.163.179

Jason lives down the street from me. It makes me envious to watch him bounding around the neighborhood like an antelope or something. There's nothing you can do about long legs and a strong heart. Great race.

From Paul on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 19:03:29 from 174.23.180.177

Cool, I'll see you there. Just tore out our deck today! The thing was rotten, glad it gone. Just need to do some grading now...

good to see you again, this time you looked better than you did in Mesquite when you almost lost your lunch on me. nice race, congrats.

From steve ash on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 21:16:56 from 64.134.220.124

Good time Walter, I have run that course before and I know it's not easy. It was cool talking to you yesterday, and by the way thanks for the info on the shoes. I'm going to try a lower heel flat now I think.

From Nancy on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 21:28:47 from 76.27.19.206

Great job Walter!!

From Walter on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 23:49:08 from 24.10.169.110

Rachel, thanks for being there to cheer us on!

Julie, oh my gosh! I totally forgot to break your wind! lol It was pretty brutal actually to hit it on the last 4 miles.

Kam, yes indeed Jason has a good running potential if he can stick to it and he will no doubt be a force. You need to get him on this blog so the St. George running Center can see his potential and get him on the team. Teach him how to blog. lol

Paul, I will give it my all hoping my legs can be ready by then. Good luck getting that ready.

Scott, my wife said I didnt look so hot coming in the finish line. It actually felt like the last 3 of a marathon for me. I was just trying to get it over with.

Sammy, I hope your sleeping right now and have a very fun time tomorrow on your half! Run good!

Steve, it was good talking to you also. Let me know how the shoe thing works out for ya.

Nancy, good to see ya out there again. You are a die hard my friend. Keep up the good work.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 00:23:48 from 174.52.45.85

Man alive, Walter James!!! How you pull off such paces week after week is something else! You really are incredible! Excellent race!!!! Congrats! :)

From Matt on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 00:56:42 from 76.23.0.103

Your a stud Walter! Congrats on a great run. How did this course compare to last? I measured it a tiny bit short. Thanks for finishing were you did as well. I guess that meant I got a 1st place medal for our age group. So I owe you double. Good luck in Boston if I don't see you before hand.

From Walter on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 01:18:42 from 24.10.169.110

Teena Marie, how could you not show for a local race. lol Hope your doing good my friend. Boston is fast upon us.

Matt, Congrats on a age group win! That was a bit harder then Moab but only because we ran it last week. You need to be fresh for this course. Keep up the great work.

From Smooth on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 01:34:58 from 174.23.251.49

Walter! CONGRATS!!! I seriously bow to your AWESOMENESS!!! You keep pulling off such insanely fast paces in back to back races! INCREDIBLE! GREAT RACE!

From missy on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 02:14:41 from 71.35.245.157

Walter!!! You forgot to mention that this was a PR for you on this course (time wise.) :)

I feel bad for the guy on the bike too, especially with how many freaking scratches, bruises, and scabs I have from falling the last few weeks on my bike..haha...BUT, there was most likely someone there to help him out.

Still think you are wicked awesome. :D

From Bec on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 11:53:25 from 76.23.55.210

Wow, two huge fast races two weekends in a row. Your legs are sure pushing the speed, even if you may think you are slowing down.

I feel bad for the official that fell off of his bike. That is something that rarely happens so I bet you were a little confused as to what to do.

From Maurine/Miles on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 14:19:56 from 97.117.78.66

Awesome job, Walter. You have been racing a lot this year!

From Kelli on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 21:03:07 from 71.219.89.155

Once again, great job Walter!!! We worried about that darn kid, he looked like he was 16! But that was quite an amazing race, especially after having run Moab last week.

I could not believe the turn out this year compared to last year! WOW!!!!! Riverton does an awesome job, we will all have to sign up early next year. Tell Misty thanks for her help at the water stop!!!

And your welcome for the blanket...my son freaked out and wanted to know why I gave sweaty Walter his blanket. You need to get some meat on your bones so you are not always freezing.

From Burt on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 01:07:18 from 98.177.220.145

Good race Walter. Keep it up!

From RivertonPaul on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 11:10:33 from 67.42.27.114

Nice job. It was fun seeing you. I hope you managed to see the chalk greeting I wrote on the street. :)

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 17:28:56 from 66.239.250.209

Very nice race Walter. That is pretty incredible considering you ran the race last week too.
