I got out to Saltair and it was borderline turning my car around and going home from the wind gusting at gruesome proportions! It was nasty nasty! I saw Josse right away and she said it was super nice by her house. Lucky!  I got my number and did a 3 mile warmup  and ran into Jake and Rob. It was blowing so hard that we found we had to run side by side because it was a crosswind and it would literally push you off of a straight line.  We went inside and waited for the start and then when we went out the wind subsided a bit.  Much better. We started and we had a tail-crosswind pushing us out. Then coming back it was in our faces. Im really not good at pushing in a race when I have to contend with that. It feels like im going no where and overworking myself to try and hit a 6 pace. It frustrates me.  My times were 1. 5:21, 2: 5:40, 3. 5:38, 4. 5:34, 5. 5:38, 6. 6:09, 7. 6:14, 8. 5:55, 9. 5:47.  I was able to muster up some push for those last two.  I then did a 4 mile cool down with Fritz, Jake, Rob, Andrea, Josse, Bill. I won $50.00 for first in Masters which I wasnt expecting so it made toughing it out even better.

Nice race Walter and great to see you - even if you did deprive me of another $50.00 gift card!

You held it together pretty well on the way back.I'm just telling myself that it's good to race in those kinds of conditions from time to time. I think it does make you mentally tougher knowing you can still put together a really respectable time in bad conditions.

From Adam RW on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 13:54:49 from 67.182.248.141

Walter, That wind was crazy. Great job toughing it out and bringing home the swag. Plus in $$$ is so much nicer than swag in clothing etc...

From Tara on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 14:08:12 from 75.169.153.171

$50 bucks! Sweet! Nice work despite the wind!

From James on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 14:22:27 from 174.23.146.70

Good race Walt! I am glad I didn't go today under the conditions.

From Walter on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 15:01:39 from 97.162.75.140

Rob, I kept waiting for you to nab me when I saw my time drop 30 seconds. Jake said since we had head wind today Boston will give us a nice tail wind.

Adam, good to see you!

Tara, I was wishing we could run the whole race with a tail wind. Not so lucky. Thanks!

James, why weren't you out there? You should've done it!

From Jake K on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 15:12:57 from 67.177.21.60

Nice race today. You've made some nice jumps over the past couple weeks. You're going to be peaking just right for Boston - keep it going!

From Dan Varga on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 15:58:27 from 174.27.226.24

From JulieC on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 19:43:38 from 168.103.185.248

totally understand the wanting to turn around!! How gruesome...just stepping out of my work tonight at 630pm when the wind hit Pleasant Grove was a detriment!! You pulled pretty well despite!! $50 towards your flight to Boston :D.

From Walter on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 19:58:42 from 24.2.69.110

Julie, I think its Kharma to push through a horrible race. It means the next few races will be in the bag!

From Steve on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 21:20:37 from 66.87.64.97

From JD on Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 21:31:55 from 71.213.33.129

From Superfly on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 10:36:24 from 74.211.21.81

Good race Walt. Sucks you guys had to battle the wind like that. Wind is just not fair... at all.

From Walter on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 19:12:21 from 24.2.69.110

Steve, we need to change that!

JD, great to meet you as well!

Clyde, I was surprised how well Fritz and Jake handled it. To me it was like running uphill.
