I met Steve and went up to the start, our bus got lost for 20 minutes. At the start I saw and met up up Amy and Stacy. It was good to finally meet them. I think I talked to Ron but wasn't sure. I started out good, a little slower than I did at St. George. I figured it would help save my legs at the end. I ran a mile with Kurt and hit a 5:50 which he thought was too fast and told me I could go. Mile 2 was a 5:40 and 3 was 5:30. 4-7 were a good climb. I did 2-6:22's. Then a 7:09. Then I got back into a 5:45 pace. I slipped to a 6:08 pace at about mile 16 which was kind of early on. I saw Kelli at the soccer park. I was starting to feel it good. I made it to mile 20 which runs by my neighborhood and my wife and kids gave me a bottle of Cytomax. I stopped and drank half it and felt great to mile 21. Then I got passed by the first place guy. I had a death march from then on. I barely kept under 8 pace. It was too much to soon from SGM two weeks ago. I took 2nd overall and made $200 bucks for my lagoon trip with the family next week! :)

One embarrising part I should mention is I collasped at the finish line from severe leg cramps. I couldnt freaking stand up on my own. I was carried to the med tent and they forced me to drink this salted down gatorade 4 cups of it or it was an IV which I didnt want. I was a bit dehydrated.

Oh goodness Walter! Quite the race. I was sitting at the soccer game just waiting for the first runners to come (sad, I watched more of that street than i did the game, BAD MOM!) When I saw the first runner, I thought, "Is that Walter??? NO, it couldn't be. He just ran St George!" So, I jumped up and ran over there and, sure enough, there you were. YOU ARE CRAZY!!!

Congrats on the great finish, $200 is not shabby and you held off MANY other men. Bummer he caught you but way to hang in there.

How do you like the course? I am just really unsure about it.

From Walter on Sat, Oct 15, 2011 at 18:28:13 from 24.2.69.110

It's very technical. In my mind I thought I had it made till I slowed to an 8 pace At mile 21. It had some uphill in bad spots like mile 17 and mile 19-20. The head wind was hard also.

From Kelli on Sat, Oct 15, 2011 at 18:29:38 from 71.219.83.151

It was very windy!!! I only know the first 17 miles, where did you go from 118th?

From Walter on Sat, Oct 15, 2011 at 18:40:02 from 24.2.69.110

On 3200 west up a gradual long grade to 9700 doth then straight down to the parktrail.

From TBean on Sat, Oct 15, 2011 at 21:05:07 from 75.169.118.47

After running the half I was walking back on the course to meet a freind running the marathon so I could run in the last few miles of the marathon with him. When I saw you run buy with a little less than a mile to go I could tell you were about dead. I'm glad you finished and made a little cash!

From Scott Ensign on Sat, Oct 15, 2011 at 21:29:58 from 65.100.247.177

nice job on a tough course and earning some well deserved cash. glad those legs held out til the end and you avoided the IV drip. that would have really ruined the day for me.

From Tom on Sun, Oct 16, 2011 at 01:12:57 from 67.199.180.90

Nice job Walter! Always nice to score some cash!!

From jtshad on Sun, Oct 16, 2011 at 10:39:41 from 69.20.183.178

Congrats on the 2nd place finish and another strong race (2 weeks after St. George?).

Hope you are recovering from the cramps, you always lay it on the line in your marathons.

From Walter on Sun, Oct 16, 2011 at 10:44:53 from 24.2.69.110

Tbean, I was not a happy camper the last three miles. Very bad!

Scott, it was a bit harder course than TOU course. I should've stuck to the half.

Tom thanks Im glad I ran it even though I destroyed my body. Lol

From Walter on Sun, Oct 16, 2011 at 10:49:15 from 24.2.69.110

I know Jeff, 21 seems to be my marathon Max this year. I havnt been able to train enough to destroy those last 5-6 miles like I could 2 years ago.

From allie on Sun, Oct 16, 2011 at 12:02:46 from 24.10.191.18

From steve ash on Sun, Oct 16, 2011 at 16:55:57 from 24.10.169.210

It was a tough one for sure Walt especially coming off of St George. Have fun at Lagoon. You earned it for sure;)

Nice job Walter. And just for the record, Nicolas Cage's real first name is not Walter. Bruce Willis's is. But thanks to you, I missed it on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. lol!

From Walter on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 11:47:18 from 70.198.191.9

Burt, yippee ki eh mother flower!

I actually feel the same as Bruce after he got his a** kicked at the end of that movie laying on the Tarmac with my lighter.

From Bec on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 11:48:09 from 68.206.133.141

Great job Walter! It was fun to see that you did such an amazing job after STG M. Leg cramps and salted Gatorade? Gross. An IV too? You must have been a sight!

From Walter on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 11:50:16 from 70.198.191.9

Becca, I truly fear the pics at the end of the race from those photographers. I will gladly post them when they become available.

From Burt on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 11:51:37 from 72.223.91.148

Ha! One of my mission companions told me there was no way that lighting the leaking fuel would ever make it back to the plane, and even if it did all it would do is sit there and spew flames out. He ruined the movie for me!

From Walter on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 11:53:38 from 70.198.191.9

He's right. Myth Busters tried it and it didn't work.

From JD on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 12:07:13 from 70.96.78.149

I'm not going to say it. I want to say it, but I won't. You know what I'm going to say anyway.

Congrats - and have fun at lagoon.

From Walter on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 12:30:45 from 70.198.191.9

JD, what? Flower? You can call me a flower if you want to. I don't mind...

From MarkP on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 13:30:45 from 97.117.105.77

From Walter on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 14:15:41 from 97.162.196.182

Mark. I'm lucky everyone else behind me didn't kick my trash. But cash Is good for a 2nd place win.

From Nancy on Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:19:01 from 76.23.21.118

When you passed me you were in first place and I was surprised to hear that you took second. Great race as always.
