This is always a great race to run in January!  I have never run a race in my life more sick than I was today.  I coughed the entire night and was very congested with a sinus infection.  I started the race at a very comfortable pace. I was right behind Steve Olson and hit a 5:43 first mile and then all hell broke loose with my pace and breathing and even my legs felt heavy and I was really hot! I had short shorts on and a singlet so I knew I was in trouble I tried to keep under a 6 and it wasnt happening I think Steve Hooper and Craig Green and  a few others passed me at mile 3 as we started up the hill and I was spent. I felt like I would at the end of a marathon. I just kept pushing myself as much as I could and ran this race. I was around a 6:15 pace most the time which im not complaining about. Ive have learned to run according to what my body allows lately and I felt good about my performance. I cant be ashamed of it.  I really enjoy coming here and other places to run a winter race. So awesome.  It was so cool to see and hang out with the team and see their awesome performances.  Way to go St. George Running Center! They do a great job down here. You guys are so lucky to have great weather.

My friend sent me a text message on my drive home from St. George that I thought would go well with my run down there. Its Mosiah 4:27--For it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength...

Very fitting!

sorry about the sinus infection.

Kicking butt already! That is a good time to get in January, heck how do we actually train up here? I think that cold thing is really going around. I heard it had something to do with all the inversion stuff

From Burt on Sat, Jan 22, 2011 at 21:17:34 from 72.223.84.236

I'll say you were hot in those shorts and singlet. Sorry you didn't feel good, but great job.

Nice job Walter - especially being sick.

I've battled sinusitis and sinus infections for over a month. Think I've finally found a solution between the sauna at the gym and a nasal cleaning system my boss recommended. I couldn't believe how much crap it drained out and eased the pain.

Great Job, sorry about the illness, this winter has been rough!

From Walter on Sun, Jan 23, 2011 at 08:07:58 from 74.82.64.32

Allie, the trip down here was great. Being sick not so much.

Steve, yeah this course is not as easy as I thought.

Burt, too funny and thanks for the laugh.

Maurine, I need that treatment for sure!

Carina, I think other runners I was a smoker the way I was coughing the last few months of inversion smog in my lungs out.

From Steve Hooper on Sun, Jan 23, 2011 at 11:43:34 from 209.33.254.93

Walter, I couldn't believe how sick you were and you still ran the race. You're crazy. I hope you start feeling better soon. It was great seeing you. We had no idea you were coming down.

From steve ash on Sun, Jan 23, 2011 at 11:46:43 from 64.134.224.97

James, Thanks for the pick me up! haha

Clyde, Ill look into that. Is it a relay?

Teena, my friend sent me a scripture on my trip ride home today. Its Mosiah 4:27--For it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. I think I accomplished that this weekend. :)

From Scott Ensign on Sun, Jan 23, 2011 at 23:17:32 from 65.100.210.17

From Bec on Tue, Jan 25, 2011 at 23:41:40 from 71.199.12.198

I hope you feel better soon. I didn't even see you down there. Crazy how you can still run that fast feeling like poop. Great race non-the-less.

From JulieC on Sat, Jan 29, 2011 at 11:55:32 from 70.56.110.10

even Secretariat couldn't run his best with a tooth infection...did you see that movie? Good one. In the end (of the movie) he FLEW by every horse breaking records along the way. You will be back to your FINER self soon. No fun to be sick and try to run well. You still ran well compared to MANY!!

From Walter on Sat, Jan 29, 2011 at 13:53:21 from 74.82.64.35

@Scott I shouldn't complain about my position and keep my goals in sight.

@Paul yes I hope to get this out of my lungs quickly.

@Jeff thanks I hope to get back and make a few PR's this year.

@Becca they have a good showing down there now and its super competitive!

@JulieC thanks for that! I hope to run swift as a thoroughbred and better boy be shot just because I'm lame right now. Lol
