Ok I started my race on friday around 8pm.  It was pretty hot!  My first leg was 5.1 miles and my split times were:  1--5:21, 2--5:45, 3--6:00, 4--6:10, 5--6:22 overall time 31:27.  I felt really until the heat got to me.  I had a good 3 miles and then I was toast.  My second leg was this morning at 12:16 am. It was hard to get my legs back into a rythm. It was a total of 2.93 miles and my splits are 1--5:40, 2--5:57, 3--5:24. my overall time was 17:02.   I immediately fell asleep as Kimball drove us to the sleep station.  I woke up at 4 am to the sound of Sasha screeming "Walter and Tyler" where are you!  I had the worst time sleeping and  my last leg had 559' of incline in it and when I got out of the van my body said, not today!  So of course i ignored it and ran my last leg of 5 miles.  my splits are 1--6:44, 2--7:01, 3--6:18, 4--6:13, 5---5:22. overall time was 31:40. We came in behind BYU by about 40 minutes and that put us in 2nd.  We also had  another  team that was the blue team that came in behind us.  Im pretty sure we got 2nd and 3rd.  It was a great time had by all and I would deffinately write a page from this but I keep falling asleep. Thanks to all that put me on the team and let me pretend I had a chance to beat some awesome college guys.  Maybe next time.

Congrats on a great job!! Your splits wer great especially on your last leg with the big incline.

From walter on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 10:37:37

Thanks Jody, that was unbelievably hard! I was so wiped out before my last leg. Im glad its over and I can get a break from races now for a while.

Awesome running at WBR, you are a stud runner! It was fun being in Van 1 with you this time. Give a big thanks to Kimball again for driving! I glad we all made it to the high school...even though I almost had to run it myself since everyone feel asleep at exchange 17!

From walter on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 13:24:39

Im sorry on exchange 17! Sasha must have been walking around forever in the parking lot. We were so wiped out after the second run that we forgot we werent done yet. It was amazing to watch the excitement level go from pumped up to destroyed! I cant believe you didnt fall asleep on the way back to IF. I hurried and washed the suv and followed kim back to drop it off and while I was at a stop light, I fell asleep! The car behind me woke me up with its horn though and I made it home. Only a 6 mile round trip, not 3 and a half hours like you guys!

Good job Walter. Your always run so good during relays.

From Walter on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 18:22:10

Thanks Clyde, I dont know the psychology in it. I do know that Del Sol was definately a confidence builder over this race. I could barely hit my 6 flat average pace. It was good to see you and join your group.

From Jon on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 18:22:33

Nice job, Walter. What happened at exchange 17?

From Walter on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 18:30:05

Exchange 17 was Sasha handing off to Jeff Shadley and we went to the parking lot to wait for sasha to come in and we all just passed out! My phone rang and it was James asking where we were and sasha was with him thinking we had left him. He found us in the parking lot right during the time Jeff had finished his 18th leg so we had left him by his self for the time it took us to drive to him. I was way more thrashed in this race compared to Del Sol. I remember not even sleeping at all, in fact I talked the whole time to Logan on one of our rests. At least we were done with our van and didnt make jeff wait to hand off to someone in our van.

From James on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 20:33:06

Nice running! Thanks for getting Kimball to drive for van 1, I hope he had fun doing it.

That was pretty funny that Sasha found us out of a hundred vans and couldn't find you guys who were 50 feet away! Way to leave Jeff hanging on that one though!:)

From James on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 20:34:45

I can't believe I am not on your favorite blog list after all we have been through together. Some friend you are!

From Walter on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 22:08:06

Your right, you arent, thanks for calling me on it. I will put you on! As for Sasha, I was laughing at that. But I felt bad that not one of us 5 that was in the van was awake or aware of the time. We couldnt even make it to our rest area.

From Adam RW- on Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 23:55:30

I hope to get to talk to you more at one of these. Two relays together and never in the same vehicle. Great race.

From Walter on Mon, Jun 23, 2008 at 00:00:37

I will definately have time to run sometime with you. I do need to get in the same van as you.

From Lybi on Tue, Jun 24, 2008 at 17:30:29

Good job, Walter! WBR is ruthless. You did a great job, especially with all that HEAT. We'll get BYU next year, just watch.

From Walter on Tue, Jun 24, 2008 at 18:45:41

Your not kidding Lybi! It was way harder. Its still taking me some time to recover. And as far as the heat, yes it definately slowed me down. I ran sooo good down there in Arizona. My times were awesome. I felt like I couldnt get my arms to pump and my legs to move.
